Happy Fungi Friday! 🍄
In the early autumn I saw a lot of mushrooms growing in a very small piece of old verge near my work.

One of the mushrooms was a larger than usual puffball. I didn’t take much notice of it, but I noticed that it was quite an unusual shape.

Here it’s overlooking what I would consider to be common puffballs.

The pattern on the upper part of the fruiting body is quite unusual, a little like crazy paving. But in actual fact, this is what gives the fungus its name.

It’s a mosaic puffball (Lycoperdon utriforme). I haven’t ever knowingly observed this species (seen overshadowing another mushroom here). Thankfully the iNaturalist community helped me to learn a new one.
Thanks for reading.
