National Trust Nymans, West Sussex, September 2024

We’re approaching mushroom season in England and there are a few signs already. It’s been a wet spring and summer according to everyone so hopefully this will result in a decent autumn for our shrooms. Every cloud (literally)!

On an afternoon walk around the National Trust’s magnificent Nymans gardens in West Sussex I spotted these larger mushrooms under a conifer. I didn’t have a clear idea from first impressions and frankly I am. I’m still not sure what they are.

I don’t think they’re milkcaps, not that I checked the gills for milk 🐄

The gills!

As ever if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks for reading.
