Happy Fungi Friday!
My local park threw up a nice surprise this week when I spotted an uprooted bolete in the buttresses of an oak.

I approached the oak and thought very quickly that it was a rooting bolete (Caloboletus radicans). Why?

I’d seen this species during a walk in Suffolk, with several large mushrooms growing under oaks in a field. Their yellow pores and blue bruising (hi) are indicators, combined with their size, toughness and the latte colouring of the bulbous cap.

September is a great time to find boletes (Ceptember) before the rains come and the leaves fall.
Thanks for reading.
