Happy Fungi Friday! These pics are fresh out of the woods. Some nice finds today, though everything seems behind on last year. Going to be warm again next week.
Wrinkled peach
This beautiful little mushroom (Rhodotus palmatus) is one I’ve only seen in person once before. That was in Peckham, SE London, on some elm logs. So naturally, despite spending several years walking mile after mile in the ancient woods, heaths, and downs of Sussex, I manage to see one again in SE London 😂 (thanks Sam).

There are lots of wonderful stacked macro photos of this fungus on Instagram, bringing to life the jewel-like guttation of the stipe. My pics were with my phone using the in-built flash, so no awards are expected here.

Here’s an attempt from my compact camera with phone torch for lighting. Colours are and white balance are much better.
First puffballs of the autumn

It may just be me but these are the first common puffballs of the year. They are pushing through very dry ground in an area that produces them.wuite consistently.
And first beefsteak of the autumn!

Last September every oak in this woodland seemed to have a beefsteak fungus growing among the buttresses. This is my first of the season, evidence to me that the autumn is later than 2022.
Thanks for reading.
