Epping Forest, Essex, September 2023
Like the hot September weather, the Ganoderma theme continues. On the edge of Epping Forest I passed this big poplar or willow stump which had a bracket fungus growing on it.

I’m confident this is a Ganoderma bracket again, though I only had 30 seconds or less to snap these phone pics in passing.

The colour of the white growth makes me think it’s likely to be Ganoderma resinaceum. There is a layer of what look like wood fibres on the bracket which makes it hard to see much more. It’s a beautiful fungus when unobscured but it may spell trouble for a tree’s structural integrity. It’s not possible to say if the council felled this tree because of the fungus.
Needless to say, we need the rain.
Thanks for reading.
