Here we are in ‘fake fall’ as the Americans call it. Many across the Mediterranean and probably large parts of The World would probably agree – you’d take rain and cloud over hellfire.
The rains are also a joy because they bring shrooms to the temperate world.
Some of the mushrooms that bring real joy are boletes. In late July I found two!

This bay bolete, I think, was growing at the edge of the footpath in moss. I’ve found this to be a prime location for bay boletes, probably due to the ongoing moistness of moss, and the spore highway of the footpath.

But what is this? It is a beautiful thing to say that I don’t know. But I think it’s a cep/pennybun/porcini. A baby bolete.
Thanks for reading.
